Buckie is a coastal town in Moray, sitting on the southern shore of the Moray Firth around 15 miles east of Elgin, with a population of around 8,000. Buckie sits on the A98 coast road between Fraserburgh and Inverness, with the A96 a short distance inland connecting Elgin, Keith and Aberdeen. Elgin, around 20 minutes west, is the nearest railhead and main service centre, while Aberdeen is roughly an hour to the east and Inverness an hour and a half west. The town takes in the older fishing districts of Buckpool, Portessie, Ianstown and Yardie, along with Barhill and the more modern housing to the south, with Cullen, Portknockie, Findochty, Fochabers and Keith among the surrounding communities.
