What size skip should we order?
Skips run from a 2-yard mini (about 20 bin bags) up to 40-yard roll-on/off containers. A 6-yard builders skip suits most home renovations; 8-yard is the go-to for larger builds. If you are unsure, tell us what you are clearing and we will recommend the right size - our skip size guide helps too. Over-ordering wastes money; under-ordering means a second skip.
How high can we fill the skip?
Fill level with the top edge of the skip - no higher. Overloaded skips cannot be transported safely or legally, so a driver may refuse to collect an over-filled skip or ask you to remove the excess first. Keep everything below the rim and spread heavy waste evenly.
How long can we keep the skip for?
Standard hire is typically up to 7 to 14 days. If you need it for longer, or you have an ongoing site where skips are exchanged regularly, just ask and we will arrange a hire period to suit - there is no rush to fill it.
Can we place the skip on the road?
Yes, but a skip on a public road needs a council permit (a skip licence). We arrange the permit for you; the council fee varies by authority and is added to your price, and some councils also require lights or markings. On your own driveway or private land, no permit is needed.
How much room do the lorries need for access?
Our delivery lorries need clear, firm access - roughly the width of a standard road - with enough headroom for low branches, cables and gateways. If access is tight, tell us in advance and we will match you with a supplier and vehicle that fits, suggest a smaller skip, or arrange a wait-and-load collection instead.
Is there anything we cannot put in the skip?
Yes - some items are banned from skips by law and need specialist disposal: no asbestos, fridges or freezers, TVs or monitors, batteries, tyres, paint or liquids, gas bottles, or clinical and hazardous waste. Ask us about our hazardous waste service for those. General household, garden, construction and commercial waste are all fine.
