The Hazlitt Theatre and the riverside gardens anchor the town's cultural and public spaces.

Maidstone is very well connected, with Maidstone East and Maidstone West stations offering services to London Victoria, Blackfriars and Charing Cross, and Maidstone Barracks serving the north of the town. The M20 runs along the northern edge with junctions 5, 6, 7 and 8 serving the area, and the M2 and A229 provide links to the Medway towns and the coast. Ebbsfleet and Ashford give access to High Speed and Eurostar services. The borough takes in Bearsted, Barming, Allington, Tovil, Shepway, Penenden Heath, Loose and Coxheath, with Aylesford, Harrietsham and Lenham nearby.
