Bodmin Moor rises immediately to the north-east, a granite upland of tors, ancient settlements and Brown Willy and Rough Tor — the highest points in Cornwall — with Jamaica Inn at its centre, made famous by Daphne du Maurier.

Bodmin sits directly on the A30, the main artery through Cornwall, with the A38 running south towards Plymouth, making it one of the best-connected towns in the county. Bodmin Parkway station, a few miles south-east, is on the Cornish Main Line with services to London Paddington, Plymouth and Penzance, and the Camel Trail cycle path runs from the town down to Wadebridge and Padstow. Nearby settlements include Lanivet, Blisland, Lostwithiel, Wadebridge and St Austell.
