It’s not just a case of how much waste you have! You also need to consider how much room you have on your site and will then need to think about the type of waste you will be disposing of. If a driver arrives on site to find an overloaded skip they are likely to turn away and leave without the skip, thus potentially incurring additional transport charges.
Though we try to be as flexible with hire periods as possible, as a general rule the maximum hire period is 7 days.
Of course should your site be an ongoing one where numerous skips are required and exchanged on a regular basis then there is nothing to worry about. If however, you require a skip that is likely to be needed for more than 7 days without exchanges, we request you inform us at the time of ordering as a rental charge may be applicable.
Yes. Though any skip that needs to be sited on a public highway, pavement or council owned verge, first requires permission from the local authority responsible.
Though the charges involved and the length of time it takes an application to be processed varies from council to council, in the vast majority of cases we can arrange the required permit on your behalf. Depending on the local authority in question, application periods can be anything from ‘same day’ to 4 weeks, so when you know that a permit is likely to be required on an upcoming site it is vital that you give us as much notice as possible to avoid any unnecessary delays.
Please also note that as the hirer, the lighting and coning of the skip whilst it is placed on public land is your responsibility, though we are usually able to arrange for the hire of these items on your behalf too.
A standard skip or roll-on-off vehicle usually requires a minimum of 10ft (3.3m) width and approximately 13ft (4m) headroom to safely gain access to a site. If your site access falls a little below these requirements we are able to (in most areas) arrange for smaller skips (depending on waste type) to be delivered on smaller lorries.

Maldon is a market town in Essex, sitting at the head of the Blackwater estuary around ten miles east of Chelmsford, with a population of around 15,000. It is one of the oldest recorded towns in the county — Edward the Elder fortified it as a burh in 916 — and it holds a significant place in English literature and history as the site of the Battle of Maldon in 991, when Byrhtnoth and the men of Essex were defeated by a Viking raiding force. The Old English poem commemorating the battle is one of the great surviving works of Anglo-Saxon literature, and a statue of Byrhtnoth stands at the end of the promenade looking out over the causeway to Northey Island where the fighting took place.
The town is built on a hill running down to the Hythe Quay, where the Thames sailing barges moor — flat-bottomed, red-sailed cargo vessels that once carried hay, grain and bricks to London and now form the largest surviving fleet of their kind in the world. Maldon's quay with its barges is one of the most photographed scenes in Essex, and the town holds barge matches each summer, a tradition dating from 1863.
Maldon's best-known export is salt. Maldon Crystal Salt has been made by hand at the head of the estuary since 1882 using a process of evaporating seawater in open pans, producing the distinctive pyramid-shaped flakes that are used by chefs worldwide and carry a royal warrant. The saltworks remains family-owned and is central to the town's identity.
The town has three medieval churches, including All Saints with its unique triangular tower — the only one in England — and the Moot Hall of around 1420 with its brick spiral staircase. The Plume Library, founded in 1704, holds a significant collection of early books. Beyond the town, the Blackwater estuary is an internationally important site for wintering wildfowl and holds the chapel of St Peter-on-the-Wall at Bradwell, built in 654 and one of the oldest churches in England.
Maldon sits on the A414, with Chelmsford around 20 minutes away providing the nearest station and services to London Liverpool Street in around 35 minutes. Housing ranges from Georgian and medieval property along the High Street and Silver Street — the centre is a conservation area with a substantial number of listed buildings — to Victorian terraces, interwar and post-war housing at Heybridge, and modern development on the town's edges, with values reflecting Maldon's estuary setting and Chelmsford commuting.
