Dundee is Scotland's fourth largest city, sitting on the north bank of the Firth of Tay around 60 miles north of Edinburgh, with a population of around 148,000. Dundee's waterfront has been transformed by a £1 billion regeneration programme, the centrepiece of which is V&A Dundee, Kengo Kuma's striking cliff-inspired building that opened in 2018 as the first V&A museum outside London. It sits alongside the RRS Discovery, the ship built in Dundee that carried Scott and Shackleton to Antarctica. Other landmarks include the McManus Galleries, the Verdant Works jute museum, Dundee Law with its panoramic views over the Tay, and the Tay Rail and Road Bridges. The city has two universities, giving it one of the highest student populations per head in the UK.

Dundee is reasonably well connected, with Dundee station offering services to Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen and a direct route to London, and the A90 linking it south to Perth and Edinburgh and north to Aberdeen. Dundee Airport sits alongside the waterfront. The city's neighbourhoods include the West End, Broughty Ferry, Barnhill and Monifieth to the east, Lochee, Charleston and Menzieshill to the west, and Hilltown, Stobswell, Kirkton, Ardler and Whitfield across the north and centre.

Housing in Dundee ranges from Victorian tenements and terraces in Stobswell, Hilltown and the West End to substantial villas in Broughty Ferry and Barnhill — long the city's most desirable areas — alongside interwar housing in Craigiebank and Downfield and extensive post-war estates at Whitfield, Ardler, Fintry and Kirkton. Property is comparatively affordable, which supports an active buy-to-let and renovation market, and the large student population sustains a substantial HMO sector around the West End and Stobswell. Much of the post-war stock is now at an age where full refurbishments, rewires and window replacements are routine.
