Though we try to be as flexible with hire periods as possible, as a general rule the maximum hire period is 7 days.
Of course should your site be an ongoing one where numerous skips are required and exchanged on a regular basis then there is nothing to worry about. If however, you require a skip that is likely to be needed for more than 7 days without exchanges, we request you inform us at the time of ordering as a rental charge may be applicable.
Yes. Though any skip that needs to be sited on a public highway, pavement or council owned verge, first requires permission from the local authority responsible.
Though the charges involved and the length of time it takes an application to be processed varies from council to council, in the vast majority of cases we can arrange the required permit on your behalf. Depending on the local authority in question, application periods can be anything from ‘same day’ to 4 weeks, so when you know that a permit is likely to be required on an upcoming site it is vital that you give us as much notice as possible to avoid any unnecessary delays.
Please also note that as the hirer, the lighting and coning of the skip whilst it is placed on public land is your responsibility, though we are usually able to arrange for the hire of these items on your behalf too.
A standard skip or roll-on-off vehicle usually requires a minimum of 10ft (3.3m) width and approximately 13ft (4m) headroom to safely gain access to a site. If your site access falls a little below these requirements we are able to (in most areas) arrange for smaller skips (depending on waste type) to be delivered on smaller lorries.

Abbey St Bathans is a small hamlet and parish in the Scottish Borders, tucked into the wooded valley of the Whiteadder Water in the Lammermuir Hills, around eight miles north-west of Duns. It is one of the smallest settlements in Berwickshire, with a parish population of little more than a hundred, and its seclusion is part of its character — the approach is by single-track roads winding down through the hills to the river. The name comes from a Cistercian priory founded here in the twelfth century and dedicated to St Bathan, a companion of St Columba.
The parish church stands on the site of that priory and incorporates fabric from the original building, including part of the chancel and a recumbent effigy thought to be of a prioress. It is one of the oldest continuously used places of worship in the Borders. Nearby, Edin's Hall Broch is one of the most significant prehistoric monuments in southern Scotland — an unusually large Iron Age broch, rare so far south, sitting within an earlier hillfort on the slopes above the Whiteadder with commanding views along the valley.
The setting is what defines Abbey St Bathans. The Whiteadder is a well-regarded trout river, the surrounding woodland and hill ground support a working estate and farming economy, and the Southern Upland Way passes close by, bringing walkers through the parish. The Lammermuirs rise to the north, an expanse of heather moorland and sheep ground running towards East Lothian, while the fertile Merse farmland opens out to the south.
Access is by minor roads from the A6112 and A1107, with Duns the nearest town for services and Berwick-upon-Tweed around 15 miles east, offering the closest railway station on the East Coast Main Line. Edinburgh is roughly an hour and a quarter by road. Surrounding communities include Duns, Preston, Cranshaws, Longformacus, Grantshouse and Cockburnspath on the coast.
